Year Six are hooked on their class reader: Holes by Louis Sacher. We have created text maps to represent all the information about the incredible venomous lizards living in desert. The classes have done a great job using scientific, geographical and a formal tone to inform their audiences about the lizard. They are now having a lot of fun inventing their own animal: The Wabub. We will keep you posted on their progress and their next piece of writing!
Year Six Kestrels have studied the work of Frida Kahlo in order to create their own self-portraits. We have looked at proportions and how to focus on details. We have looked at representing ourselves and our personalities in the background of our art work. Fantastic effort!
The children requested cereal for snack this morning, so they set up their own cafe. With the extra cereal we made birdfeeders.
The children have been listening to fairy tales, this week. For our dance session the children pretended they were at the magical ball.
We have been learning what makes a simple circuit. We now know the names a many different electrical component and can look at a picture of a circuit to see if it is complete or incomplete. Stay around for more electrifying news.
We our so proud of ourselves in year 4! We are working on developing our knowledge and application using multiplication. So far, we have been working on factor pairs, multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 and we've been using different methods. Now, you can see why we are so happy.
Year 1 looked at different kinds of hand puppets and then designed their own. They cut out the felt pieces and have enjoyed learning how to sew in order to join the two pieces together.
Parrots and Penguins were very excited to have a visit from a Dental hygienist. She told them they need to brush our teeth twice a day, using small circular motions. They then played a game, looking at which food and drink items are good or bad for their teeth. All of the children recieved a goodie bag with a new toothbrush, tooth paste and a two minute timer.
Wagtails have been hard at work trying to build their 3D stone age houses which are now nearly complete. They used the nets of 3D shapes to make the basic shapes.
Woodpeckers have been very busy this week, learning how to subtract using the column method. They demonstrated what marvellous mathematicians they are becoming!
The children in Puffins have settled back into school well. New children have also started and are making new friends. The children have played with ice and in the mud kitchen. The children have made lollipops, melted snowmen and we are learning to mark make.
As part of our new topic in science (electricity)
this week Year 4 pupils designed circuits. Pupils enjoyed using a number of different components.
Year 4 have been practicing programming a micro:bit device.
A micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that introduces you to how software and hardware work together. It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that you can program and physically interact with.
Year 3 had a fantastic day in Queen's Park, on the Faith Tour. They got to visit 3 different places of worship and learn about the different faiths and artefacts. Their behaviour was amazing and they were able to show they had remembered lots of things from their lessons back in school.
Woodpeckers had a busy first week back. They completed their Iron Age shield designs from last term, and also using maps, compared our local area to what it looked like in 1884. They discovered that both the school and church were not built in 1884, but the road looked very similar in shape.
Parrots and Penguins have been enjoying our new maths topic 'Alive in 5!'
We have been learning all about numbers 0 to 5 and finding out what those numbers look like. We have done lots of sorting and matching activities to show what we have learned.
In Wrens the children have been investigating floating and sinking by testing out different materials. They made predictions first and then conducted their experiment to find out the results which they recorded.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to our Year 1 Maths cafe. The children really enjoyed playing lots of different games and practising their maths skills.
Thank you to all the family members who attended the maths cafe today. The children enjoyed showing off their maths skills!
Woodpeckers have thoroughly enjoyed their work on rocks this half term. To end the topic, they learnt about the rock cycle using chocolate. They turned sedimentary into metamorphic rock, before turning metamorphic into igneous rock. They had great fun being geologists!
