Herons class have been working on a mechanical pop-up book for Key stage 1 pupils.
They thought about spacers, levers and other mechanisms whilst making their lovely final products.
Well done to all members of Herons class on completing their wonderful books for a younger audience!
The Puffins have had fun making things for Easter. Bunny Ears, foot prints with orange paint, painting chicks. We also made chocolate nest.
Happy Easter Everyone
In science Wrens have been learning about different materials. After identifying, naming and classifying them in different ways, they then set up their own enquiries to investigate their properties. Through carrying out a range of experiments they found out which materials are transparent and opaque, which are absorbent and non-absorbent and also whether different objects will float or sink.
Wrens explored making different body shapes and balances in their PE lessons, using both the floor and pieces of apparatus. In pairs they linked these to create simple sequences which they then performed to the rest of the class.
Woodpeckers have had a very busy week. In Computing, we have been working hard on coding and are beginning to create our own programmes. In DT, we are making poison dart frogs and thinking very carefully about our stitches. In Geography, we are coming to the end of our topic on Rainforests. This week we have thought about how deforestation impacts on different groups. This raised lots of discussion about the 'for and against' arguments and the destruction it is having on our planet. Finally, in Science, we thought about the ways seeds are dispersed. We went out on the playground to investigate this - one experiment was to use paper aeroplanes to simulate wind/air dispersal.
Year 6 enjoyed a very exciting trip to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios this week. The whole day really did bring the magic of Harry Potter alive. We learnt about green screens, prosthetics, animatronics and saw many of the sets where the Harry Potter movies were filmed. The children can't wait to watch more of the movie next week so that they recognise the props, special effects and the making of the scenes that we learnt about. The children represented Livingstone with an abundance of enthusiasm and good manners! A great day out!
In Reception we have been learning all about 3D shapes, and as part of our active maths learning we were tasked to find 3D shapes around our outdoor area and create an obstacle course! We had a great time finding cubes, cuboids and cones for our obstacle course. We couldn't find many pyramids, and we found out that spheres are not good for building with!
We learned all about the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and have been doing lots of activities around it, including learning about the butterfly lifecycle, learning the days of the week and making our own 'egg box' caterpillars! Our favourite part of this topic was tasting the different fruits from the story. We tried apples, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges and watermelon and marked down whether we liked them or not on a chart.
Kingfishers have worked hard; considering proportions, spacing, colours and self-reflection, in order to create these lovely self-portraits. Well done Fishers!
Hawks and Herons have had a really busy half term doing lots of exciting things! We have been writing debates and non-chronological reports in English and have done lots of maths work involving area and perimeter.
A highlight was book day and careers day - the costumes and hats children wore were fantastic and we really enjoyed having so many speakers come in and talk to us about their jobs. It definitely inspired a lot of children!
We have also gone swimming this term in PE - this has proved a great success with all the children who have not only had fun, but also learned some valuable skills in the water. Our reading cafe earlier this term was also a great success - thank you to everyone who managed to come along - we hope to see even more faces next term!
Year 2 had an amazing trip to Warwick Castle this week as part of our history project on castles!
We explored the castle courtyard and all of the beautiful rooms inside the castle buildings. We discussed which parts of the castle we recognised from our topic work and even found some real life murder holes!
After climbing the motte and eating lunch right next to a very curious peacock, we all explored the servants quarters, which were full of wax models of different people who would have worked at the castle.
It was a very exciting and enjoyable day and year 2 behaved wonderfully throughout!
Our digital leaders have been waiting patiently for the micro:bits to arrive and now they are finally here!
Keep watching the news to find out what amazing things we will do with these amazing little codible computers.
Huge congratulations! What an amazing Matilda inspired hat. 😮
Wagtails class have been designing there own toy poison dart frogs by exploring the different colours and patterns of the frogs that live in the rainforest. After successfully designing their frogs they have been busy cutting the shapes needed from felt. Next they will be working in small groups to sew the frogs together before stuffing them and finishing them with a colourful pattern.
Owls have been erupting in excitement over their new topic 'Volcanoes!'
We have been learning about:
What a volcanoes is,
Where they are located,
Tectonic plate,
and what the 'ring of fire' is.
Explosive stuff, I'm sure you'll agree.
On World Book Day, Kestrels enjoyed talking about their favourite books and making mini-replicas using match boxes. Intricate and delicate work! Brilliant concentration and attention to detail.
The Puffins had fun playing games with the parachute. They liked laying on the floor and feeling the rush of the air as the parachute was lifted up and down by the adults.
Penguins have been really enjoying their topic of 'What's growing in the garden?' We have been learning about different types of plants and planting our own beans and sunflowers. We also conducted an interesting experiment to find out the best growing conditions for cress seeds! We found out that plants need both sunlight and water to be healthy.
The Friends of Livingstone Primary School PTA have organised another cake sale, as the last one was so popular! Please see the attached image for details and speak to your child's class teacher if you have any questions #TeamLivingstone
The childrenin Puffins had read the story The Little Red Hen. The children made the bread togther and then got to eat some once it was cooked.
